How to Prevent Corrosion Caused by Road Salt

When the temperature drops, salt is used to make roads safe. It decreases the freezing temperature of water, thus preventing ice from forming. Unfortunately, the biggest downside to road salt is that it can cause corrosion on your vehicle. We here at Best Volvo of Rochester want you to protect your investment, so here are some tips you need to know.

The easiest way to prevent corrosion is to wash your car on a regular basis. A good washing will remove any salt particles on the body of your vehicle. During the winter months, it's recommended that you wash your vehicle once every 10 days. Washing should be done during the day so that everything can dry out before the sun goes down.

To provide protection between washes, you can invest in a protective sealant. There are a number of great products to choose from. Waxes and finishing products create a thin layer of protection on top of the paint finish. A high-quality product can prevent the salt from even touching your vehicle.
